Sexual Assault/ Rape in the Charleston SC, Tri- County area there is help available.
If you have been sexually assaulted/raped, realize:  
It is not your fault. Males as well as females are victimized by rape.
Sexual assault is an emergency.
You do not need to involve the legal system or police unless you choose.

What to do:
Go to a safe place. You will need to make some important decisions and choices.
Call a trusted friend or family member to be with you for support and help.
You can also call a local trained sexual assault victim advocate to help support you in this and get you through.

Do not delay, do not change clothes.
Do not shower or bathe, eat or drink, wash your hands or brush your teeth.

You have the right to a medical/ forensic exam by a specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner within 120 hours or 5 days of the rape. The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program at MUSC has a team of forensically trained nurses that are on call to the MUSC Emergency Room 24/7 to care for you and collect evidence after an acute (within 120 hours/5 days) sexual assault.
