Women's Care : Postgraduate Education : About Dr. Kilby

Dr. KilbyDr. J. Michael Kilby is Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology and Director of the Infectious Diseases Division at MUSC.  Originally from NC, Dr. Kilby attended Wake Forest University for college (summa cum laude and with Honors in English, 1986), UNC-Chapel Hill for medical school (AOA and with Honors, 1990), and Duke University for Internal Medicine training (Assistant Chief Resident, 1993).  He went on to University of Alabama at Birmingham for ID Fellowship and remained there on faculty for 15 years, as HIV researcher (novel therapies such as membrane fusion inhibitors and therapeutic vaccines; AIDS immunopathogenesis; acute HIV infection), clinical educator and Medical Director of the UAB 1917 HIV Clinic (voted one of the top 5 US HIV programs by US News and World Report).  He has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers and textbook chapters, and his research interests continue to relate to HIV natural history, therapeutics, and clinical management.
