Weight Loss Surgery : What to Expect : Follow-up Appointments After Bariatric Surgery

We look forward to working with you and watching your progress with your weight loss following bariatric surgery. Compliance to a follow up schedule is critical to a successful outcome. 

Your required follow up visit pattern after bariatric surgery is as follows:

Within 5 – 10 days

  • Jackson Pratt Drains will be removed at this visit for patients done laparoscopically
  • Physician Exam
  • Dietitian Evaluation

One month post op

  • Physician Exam
  • Dietitian Evaluation

Video: Weight Loss Surgery - What Can You Expect Afterwards?

Three months post-op for a year

  • Physician Exam
  • Dietitian Evaluation

Every six months for a year

  • Labs checked at six month intervals then annually
  • Physician Exam
  • Dietitian Evaluation

Annually for life following bariatric surgery

  • Physician Exam
  • Dietitian Evaluation – if patient has weight gain
  • Labs
