Weight Changes:

  • Weight Loss: 298.1 to 177.2 (lost 120.9 lbs and 40.6% of her starting weight)
  • Body Mass Index (BMI change): 48.1 to 28.6


Blood Lipid Changes:

  • Total Cholesterol: 148 (healthy) to 132 (healthy)
  • LDL (bad) Cholesterol: 87 (healthy) to 84 (healthy)
  • HDL (good) Cholesterol: 44 (low) to 38 (low)
  • Triglycerides: 85 (healthy) to 50 (healthy)


Body Composition Changes:

  • Body Fat %: 48.3% to 30.9% (reduced body fat by 17.4 percentage points, which represents a 36% reduction in this measure)
  • Waist: 48" to 31.5" (lost 16.5 inches)
  • Hips: 58.5" to 43.5" (lost 15 inches)

Overcoming Obstacles (in patient's own words):

"The biggest obstacle  I had to overcome was planning my meals.  By doing this, I learned the importance of being prepared so that you don’t catch yourself in a position where you have allowed yourself to get very hungry.  When I was very hungry, I was most likely to make a quick & usually poor eating decision.  Eating something every few hours ensures that you don’t get over-hungry.  This does take planning.  I go to the grocery store once a week with a pre-planned grocery list and STICK TO THE LIST!"

"Through the HealthFast program, I have become aware how important exercise is not only to successful weight loss, but to just feeling better in general.  As recommended by the program, I started things out slowly, adding just a little bit more exercise every week. As I lost weight, the exercising got easier and easier, and so did the everyday stuff like getting out of bed or shopping the mall.  I set new exercise goals consistently through the program to keep challenging myself.  One of my goals that I am currently working on is running a 5K.  I have NEVER been a runner in my life.  I started off very slowly doing an interval training program and also signed up for some local 5Ks (and recruited friends to cheer me on) so that I would have some accountability.  Every one that I do, I better my time.  The amount of energy that I have found through exercise & weight loss is life changing!!"

"One of my favorite things about the HealthFast program and the mentality of the staff is that they are striving to give you tools to live a normal healthy life.  They help you face real world circumstances and give you the knowledge to make good choices.  Use the tools (pedometer, weighing daily, food diaries, calorie counters) and use the knowledge of the staff.  They are extremely willing to help in any way."
