Volunteer Services

COME VOLUNTEER WITH US!  Volunteers are valued at MUSC!  Please click the link to the right to apply!

OUR CURRENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS 

Transporters:  Volunteers to transport patients and Visitors 

Way-Finders:  Walk patients and visitors to their destination

Pet Therapy:  Certified Pet Therapy Dogs needed

Music Therapy:  Volunteers that play musical instruments for patients

Volunteer Beauticians:  Volunteers to assist patients that request assistance in styling hair.  (No cutting or color)

Game Partners:  Play card and board games with long term patients

CURRENT VOLUNTEER WISH LIST:

Packaged crackers and cookies and assorted snacks for ICU families. 

New or gently used coats (Adult)

Items for the Family Tea CART:  New and packaged teas, coffees (regular, decaf and flavored). 

Candy for tea cart and Infusion Patients

Handmade knitted lap blankets and hats (Adult sizes)

Surgical style cloth hats (call for details)

Travel Size toiletries

Volunteer Requirements
Please review the requirements below before submitting your application.

  • Commit to a minimum of one 3-4 hour shift per week on the same day at the same time
  • Fulfill a minimum of 100 volunteer hours per year
  • Recovery and Trauma must be at least age 21, and have HEP-B documentation.
  • Prospective volunteers must complete a health screening, background check, and formal orientation to MUSC's policies and procedures, as well as orientation to the assigned unit.

Our Application Process
Upon receipt of your application, you should be contacted with in 5 to 7 days.   Acceptance into the program is contingent upon the completion of the following steps:

  • Completed application 
  • Criminal background check
  • Interview
  • Pre-Placement Health screening
  • General Orientation
  • Orientation to selected volunteer area

Placements for "summer only" are limited and subject to a 72-hour commitment. Students interested in volunteering during summer must be certain of their ability to follow through on the commitment and submit their application by April 1.

Please note that our program does not provide the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, or other health care providers, nor do we allow volunteers to perform any sort of medical procedures.

We provide all of our volunteers training and ongoing support. New volunteers are required to complete general orientation. In addition to your overall orientation you will receive an orientation and training in your particular area of service.
