Amplifying the Impact of Living Donor Transplants Through Kidney Chains
Titte R. Srinivas, M.D., Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Programs at MUSC, discusses how kidney chains, enabled by algorithms developed by the National Kidney Registry, will revolutionize living donor transplants. In the past, a patient benefited from living donation only if the donor was compatible. With the advent of kidney chains, a patient with an incompatible donor remains eligible for transplant. MUSC started its first kidney chain in April 2013.
