Family History Having a father or brother with prostate cancer doubles a man’s risk. The odds are even higher in those with several affected relatives. Race African-American men are more than twice as likely as Caucasian-American men to get prostate cancer. Diet A diet high in fruits and vegetables (at least five servings per day) is associated with lower prostate cancer rates. Men who eat a high-fat diet may have a greater chance of developing the cancer. Weight Obesity is associated with prostate cancer. Environmental exposures Farmers and those exposed to the metal cadmium are at an increased risk - Reprinted from MUSC's Checkup publication, Summer 2003
