On behalf of the faculty and staff in the Department of Urology, welcome to our Web site. Hopefully, as you surf our site, you will find valuable information about our clinical, research and educational programs.
Our department has a long history of success. As an integral part of the Medical University of South Carolina, one of the oldest medical schools in the south, we have educated and trained many of the urologists in the state and throughout the region and the country. Likewise, we have touched tens of thousands of patients’ lives, and we also have participated in numerous clinical trails and other research studies that have resulted in innovative medications and treatments. We are very proud of our past. We also are proud of what we are doing now. For instance, as we further develop our satellite office in Mount Pleasant, more patients than ever before are going there for visits. The recent addition of new faculty will greatly enhance our ability to see more patients. The department's first-ever endowed chair, The Brockmann Endowed Chair of Urologic Oncology, is nearly complete. Plus, we are working closely with referring physicians in the state and the region to ensure patients get the care they need. We are working continually on many fronts to improve, and yet we know there is still work to do. Teaching. Healing. Discovering. Our mission continues to guide us as we strive to recruit the best faculty, to provide the best patient care, and to promote basic and translational research. This is true at our two outpatient clinics, the Medical University Hospital, MUSC's Children's Hospital, and the Ralph H. Johnson Veteran's Administration Hospital, where our faculty also practice. Our goal is to be the country’s premiere center for urology, and we believe that we are well on our way.

| | Gift establishes new endowed chair in research | MUSC recently established a new endowed chair dedicated to the research of genitourinary cancer, thanks to a philanthropic gift from a resident of Hilton Head Island and his children.
Juergen Brockmann and his children, Veronica Erston, Regina Cialdini and Thorsten Brockmann, made their gift to the Department of Urology in memory of their late wife and mother Karin, who died in April 2003 after a long illness. Karin Brockmann’s physician, urology chairman Thomas Keane, M.D., said the Brockmann Endowed Chair in Urologic Oncology would enable the department to strengthen and accelerate its investigations of genitourinary cancer.
