Transplant : Organ Donor Registry

Successfully transplanting an organ is no longer the challenge it was 25 years ago. Today, the biggest challenge facing patients is the growing shortage of organs available for transplant.

Consider the statistics:

  • More than 100,000 patients are currently registered on the national waiting list for organ transplant.
  • Approximately 90% of people on the South Carolina list are waiting for a kidney.
  • South Carolina has the nation’s second largest percentage of African Americans awaiting a kidney.

Because our need for kidneys to transplant is so great, we at MUSC encourage everyone to donate their kidneys through the South Carolina Donor Registry. We also strongly encourage living kidney donations.

Find out more about the South Carolina Donor registry and about living donation at www.every11minutes.org.

Donating an organ is a gift of life and hope. Please consider donating your organs to live on in someone else.
