The MUSC Transplant Center is one of the best institutions at which to have a kidney transplant. Our wait time for an available kidney is among the shortest in the nation and we transplant hundreds of kidneys each year. Since 1968, thousands of patients have received kidney transplants here.

Our extensive kidney transplant experience contributes to:

  • Superior outcomes and some of the nation’s lowest mortality rates
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Extremely low re-admission rates
  • Improved quality of life for patients

Patient Perspective
Kidney transplants are available to adult and pediatric patients suffering from end-stage renal disease.  MUSC has a dedicated children's hospital providing specialized care for pediatric transplant recipients. We procure kidneys from living and deceased donors. Learn more about Living Organ Donation and the South Carolina Organ Donor Registry. At MUSC, many of our kidney transplants also accompany simultaneous pancreas transplants (SPK).
