MUSC has the only Heart Transplant program in South Carolina. Since it began in 1987, we have performed over 400 heart transplants in adults and children. MUSC has a dedicated children's hospital providing specialized care for pediatric transplant recipients. Our outcomes are comparable to the national average, with some of the lowest mortality rates for patients on our wait list. What's more, MUSC's average waiting time to receive a heart transplant is among the shortest in the nation. Our extensive heart transplant experience also contributes to: - A shorter hospital stay
- Extremely low re-admission rates
- Improved quality of life for patients
For South Carolinians, whose deaths from heart disease are among the highest in the nation, a heart transplant is one of many options available at MUSC for successfully treating end-stage heart failure.
