Sports Medicine : Patient Information : Dr. David Geier Clinic Information

Location and Date of Appointment
Dr. Geier currently sees patients in Mount Pleasant, James Island, downtown Charleston and West Ashley. The schedulers will make every effort to make an appointment as quickly as possible at the most convenient location. Please feel free to choose a day and time either based on the next available at a particular office if that location is important or the next available at any of the offices if getting an appointment as soon as possible is desired. For example, a patient living in Mount Pleasant who calls with an injury on Wednesday may be offered Thursday in James Island or early next week in Mount Pleasant. If the date or location of the appointment is not ideal or needs to be changed, the schedulers can transfer the patient to Dr. Geier’s assistant, who may be able to facilitate changes as well.

New Patient Paperwork
All patients new to Dr. Geier will be asked to complete a new patient questionnaire. This paperwork can be completed in the office before the appointment or can be completed prior to the appointment. Dr. Geier’s assistant can email the forms or they can be downloaded from this website.

Office Visit
There are a couple of points to keep in mind to make the visit go as smoothly as possible.

First, many times x-rays will be taken for new patients, and these will be done at the beginning of the appointment prior to seeing Dr. Geier. Also, the new patient paperwork will need to be completed prior to seeing him. For these reasons, please arrive approximately 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled appointment time.

If you have previously seen another physician or had radiology studies, such as x-rays or an MRI, please try to obtain these studies (the report and the actual films or CD), office records, and operative notes and bring them to the appointment with Dr. Geier.
Please wear clothing that will facilitate the examination. For example, if the patient has a knee injury or pain, he or she should wear or bring shorts to the appointment. Disposable shorts may be given to the patient if it appears that the patient’s clothing will limit the examination. Also, the patient may be asked to change into a gown for shoulder examinations.

Please feel free to ask any questions about the pain or injury. Dr. Geier and his team make every effort to explain the diagnosis and treatment options thoroughly and in layman’s terms as best possible. He makes every effort to engage patients in the decision making and ensure that the patient and family are comfortable with the chosen treatment plan.

Forms for return to sports, school excuses, and work excuses can be completed at the office. Please let the office staff know if these forms are needed.
