Keith Borg M.D., Ph.D. is currently the Research Director in the Division of Emergency Medicine at MUSC. Keith grew up in Irmo, South Carolina and graduated from the Medical Scientist Training Program at MUSC in 2000 with a MD and PhD. His thesis studied retroviral gene expression in HIV-1. He then completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati Emergency Medicine program. During his residency he served as president of the Emergency Medicine Residents Association. For the two years, he was faculty at Emory University and worked clinically at Emory University, Grady Hospital and Hugh Spalding Pediatric Hospital. With the development of the residency program in EM at MUSC, Keith was recruited back to Charleston to develop research in the program. He has recently served as president of the American College of Emergency Physicians Young Physicians Section. Keith’s primary area of research is oxidative stress in traumatic brain injury. He studies the oxidative injury and markers of that injury following traumatic brain injury in adults and children. Development of research resources and collaborative efforts with other investigators is a high priority of the research program for the division.
