Patient Satisfaction Performance Measures
Hospitals typically measure patient satisfaction by asking a series of questions related to their experience, their caregivers and the environment. MUSC monitors several key areas including how likely patients would be to recommend the hospital to their friends and family and an overall rating of the hospital on a scale of 0-10.
This data is collected through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and System (HCAHPS) survey. The measure of satisfaction and loyalty provides insight into the overall patient experience and helps us identify opportunities for improvement. Answers to these questions provide an overall indication about the level of satisfaction our patients have with the care they received during their stay at MUSC. The results below are from patients who had overnight stays at MUSC from April 2011 through March 2012.
85% of our patients said they would recommend MUSC. In South Carolina and in the nation overall, 71% and 70% of patients said they would recommend their hospital to others.
81% of our patients rated MUSC as a 9 or 10, where 10 is the best score. 71% of patients in South Carolina rated the hospitals where they stayed as a 9 or a 10, and 69% of patients in the nation overall rated the hospitals where they stayed as a 9 or a 10.
