Quality & Patient Safety Report

You have options when deciding on your health care providers, and at the Medical University of South Carolina we want to provide you with the information you need to make the right choice. In this Performance Report you will find quality measures that show how MUSC ranks against national averages (where available) for many different clinical areas. From heart attack care to infection prevention, we have provided you with the information you need to help you make an informed choice. While these performance measures shouldn't be your only consideration when choosing a healthcare provider, we feel that it is important to share them with you.

This Performance Report also helps us evaluate our level of care, and knowing this information allows us to improve our care. By seeing areas where we are not ranked as highly as we would like to be, we know where to concentrate our quality improvement efforts.

How to Use This Performance Report

The pages in this site provide specific information about clinical quality (patient care), infection prevention, and patient satisfaction. Each page contains graphs showing how MUSC ranks for different types of performance data. Whenever possible, we also show our rankings against the national averages for that performance indicator.

We have also provided a section on patient safety that we hope you will find useful when you are visiting a doctor, a hospital or a pharmacy.

84% of our patients would recommend our hospital to family and friends. Higher than the top 10% of all academic medical centers. April 2010 - March 2011

77% of our patients gave us a 9 or 10 best hospital perception score.
