Hospitals typically measure patient satisfaction by asking a series of questions related to their experience, their caregivers and the environment. MUSC monitors several key areas including an overall rating of the hospital on a scale of 0-10 and how likely patients would be to recommend the hospital to their friends and family. This data is collected through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and System (HCAHPS) survey and calculated by Press Ganey. The measure of satisfaction and loyalty provides insight into the overall patient experience and, combined with other satisfaction measures, helps us identify opportunities for improvement. The numbers reported are for the third quarter of 2007 and reflect in-patient hospital stays. Answers to this question provide an overall indication about whether patients are satisfied with the care they received during their stay at the hospital. Patients are polled after discharge. During the third quarter of 2007, % of the patients said they would recommend MUSC. In the state, 66% of patients said that they would recommend their hospital to others, while 67% of patients nationally would recommend their hospital. 70% of the patients rated MUSC as a 9 or 10, where 10 is the best score. 63% of patients in the state and in the nation, rated the hospitals where they stayed as a 9 or a 10. |
