Psychiatry Residency Training Program Upon the completion of medical school, a physician becomes eligible to undertake the next phase of medical education, "Graduate Medical Education" or "Residency." A residency prepares physicians for practice in a medical specialty. Residents are considered prepared to undertake independent medical practice within a chosen specialty upon the completion of a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and which meets educational requirements for certification by the sponsoring specialty board(s). The Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship Program The Medical University of South Carolina/Department of Veterans Affairs Psychology Internship Consortium is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Sciences, which is a coalition of doctoral training programs that share a common goal of producing and applying scientific knowledge to the assessment, understanding, and amelioration of human problems. Membership in the Academy is granted only after a thorough peer review process.
