Institute of Psychiatry : Psychiatric Services : Geriatric Services : Seasons Intensive Outpatient Services

Seasons is a unique program that offers both partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programming. The program is deleafsigned for mature adults with psychiatric illnesses as an alternative treatment when traditional outpatient care is not working but inpatient treatment is not required or desired.  Treatment focuses on group therapy and is offered during the daytime, allowing the patients to spend the evening at home.  These intensive outpatient services provides the most thorough, state-of-the-art care; treating the full range of psychiatric illnesses including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders.  Care is coordinated with your current provider and offers an alternative to hospitalization for adults over 40.  Seasons provides treatment, education and coping skills that help each patient to manage their symptoms and improve their level of functioning.

Programming

Programming will generally run several hours each day, 9:00am - 1:30pm with a meal served at lunchtime.

  • Those in the partial hospitalization program will attend 5 days per week
  • Those in the intensive out-patient program will attend 3-4 days per week

Treatment Modality

Our primary treatment modality will be group therapy.  Patients will meet in groups throughout the day.  Patients will also have the opportunity to meet with the psychiatrist and individual counselor frequently.

Benefits

There are many benefits to the patient of participating in a partial hospitalization program. Seasons patients have a safety and support network eliminating the need to be in the hospital.  Patients often find a stay in the hospital uncomfortable and less desirleafable than staying in their own home and own bed at night.  As long as their needs can be met safely at home in the evening hours, then they can have the best of both worlds by receiving therapy and intensive treatment during the daytime and having the comforts of home in the evening.

For those who are just coming out of the hospital, it’s often difficult to make the transition and patients are at risk for relapse and readmission.  This program will help to ensure a smooth transition and decrease the risk for being re-hospitalized.

Commitment to Treatment

The Seasons staff are committed to assist patients in their recovery. Achieving an optimal outcome also requires a commitment from the Seasons  patient as well.  Not all patients will feel comfortable in a group setting and we promise to make the adjustment as easy as possible. The staff is there to provide support and explanations whenever a patient or family member has a concern.
