The Access & Admission Team is comprised of nurses, Master's level counselors and licensed professional counselors (LPCs) who can provide phone assessments to help determine the most appropriate care for your patient. The Team is available 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours and on weekends and holidays, calls are answered by the MUSC hospital operator. The operator conducts brief triage and transfers calls to the most appropriate personnel for referral management. When calling to refer a patient for treatment at the Institute of Psychiatry, please have the following information available to expedite the admission process:
- Referring physician's/clinician's full name, address and telephone numbers
- Patient's full name, address and telephone number(s) and guardian information, if appropriate
- A brief description of the current psychiatric issues the patient is experiencing , including medical history and medication history if available
- Insurance information on the patient, or information on who or which organization will accept financial responsibility for the patient's treatment

Institute of Psychiatry Community Liaisons are available to meet with physicians, clinicians, guidance counselors, therapists, and office staff to provide information of all IOP programs and facilitate the admissions process.
