Group Therapy with Older Adults
Presentation Dates: September 12, 2009, December 12, 2009 OR March 13, 2010
Workshop Description

Using interactive activities and exercises, as well as film media and handouts, attendees will learn the aspects of group work with older adults who experience anxiety and depression. While the predominant theme is cognitive behavioral therapy, participants will also be exposed to the use of poetry and mindfulness therapies.

Objectives
At the completion of this session the participant should be able to:
  1. Use CBT and other techniques to assist older adults with anxiety and depression
Speaker Biography
Ms. Sommers has been working as a therapist for two years with MUSC's Geriatric Outpatient program, Season's.  She conducts 1-4 group therapy sessions daily with older adults, 5 days a week.
