Co-Occurring Infrastructure Changes in South Carolina

This presentation will provide an overview of South Carolina’s efforts to implement co-occurring infrastructure changes within the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services and the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.

Speaker Objectives
At the completion of this session the participant should be able to:
  1. identify the co-occurring infrastructure changes being made in South Carolina

  2. identify what consumers with the co-occurring disorders think about our current system of care

  3. recognize what an improved system of care would look like in South Carolina

Speaker Biography

Shelley McGeorge, PhD is the Project Manager of the Co-occurring State Incentive Grant (COSIG), a five-year, federally funding initiative to improve the behavioral health infrastructure of the state of South Carolina through innovations to serve individuals with both a mental health and addiction disorder.  The Grant has been awarded to the SC Office of the Governor and includes the partnership of the SC Department of Mental Health, the SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services and the SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department.

Dr. McGeorge has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of addiction and mental health, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, teaching, training and functioning in clinical, managerial and planning positions.

She has a PhD in Counselor Education, a Masters of Public Administration degree, a Master of Education degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a BA in Psychology all from the University of South Carolina.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She has a private clinical practice in Columbia, South Carolina and serves on the Board of the American Mental Health Counselors Association of South Carolina.
