Genetic Counseling MUSC Hollings Cancer Center offers genetic counseling to help people better understand the benefits, limitations, and risks associated with genetic testing. Based on the individual’s risk, strategies for screening and prevention are discussed. Because the center is actively involved in clinical trials and the introduction of new, proactive prevention strategies, people have more choices than ever before to limit their personal risk. The Looking Glass Located inside MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, the Looking Glass is a store specifically for cancer patients and their families. Here, patients will find products that meet needs that develop during treatment. This includes wigs, prostheses, hats, special bras and camisoles, and UV protective clothing. Educational materials are also available. The store’s staff has the knowledge, experience and sensitivity to help patients who are dealing with the cosmetic side effects of cancer.
More Information on The Looking Glass Palliative Care MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is committed to providing the continuum of cancer care, from diagnosis and treatment to end-of-life care. A Palliative/Support Care Clinic assists patients and their families during the transition from curative treatment to supportive care. Experts assist patients with pain and symptom management, decision-making, and counseling throughout the course of their disease. MUSC Hollings Cancer Center works in partnership with Hospice of Charleston and other hospice agencies for patients outside the Charleston area to provide medical care and emotional support at home.

Clinical Trials MUSC Hollings Cancer Center physicians and scientists conduct basic and clinical research. University-based, the center has the unique ability to develop translational research, creating novel therapies that are taken from the research lab-the bench-to bedside, a practice that brings new, potentially life-saving treatments to patients faster. In addition to its own research projects, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center participates in a number of clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. The center is a member of Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), Gynecology Oncology Group (GOG), and the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG). Specialized, multi-disciplinary team assessments for each patient includes the discussion of promising investigational therapies available for treatment.
