Our history of serving Lowcountry patients dates back to 1948 when Dr. George Gardner Durst Sr. opened his practice on Sullivan's Island. He became known as a respected community leader as well as a gentleman doctor with outstanding diagnostic abilities. Dr. Durst Sr. took time to listen to his patients. This tradition is being carried on by his son, Dr. George G. Durst Jr., and his associates – Dr. Rochelle Rutledge; Dr. Durst Jr.'s daughter, Dr. Kay Durst; and physician's assistant Colleen Makley.

Durst Family Medicine continues to stress accessibility with extended hours, acceptance of walk-in patients and same-day appointments.  We were one of the first to offer pediatric services East of the Cooper and have enjoyed caring for families over several generations. Our office is conveniently located on Sullivan's Island with easy access from downtown Charleston and I-526, allowing us to serve the Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island and island communities. Our doctors are board certified in family medicine, and with our background and experience, we offer a wide range of services, including preventive care, gynecology and treatment of acute and chronic conditions. As a result, we see a more complete picture of the health of our patients.
