Sally Hughes Smith, author and artist, hosts the MUSC Aging Podcasts covering a wide range of current health topics related to healthy aging and advice for the caregiver.  Sally wrote The Circle – A walk with Dementia, an honest and poignant personal tale of her family's journey through the battle of Alzheimer's disease.

As a lay person who has herself experienced the scary and uncharted waters of caregiving and issues related to aging loved ones, she is particularly suited to interview experts in many fields to find out what we all want to know about these subjects.  The book she wrote gives a picture of one family’s struggle from a real and emotional side as well a practical one.  It has helped many people directly, and also helps indirectly since all proceeds from the book support aging research at MUSC.  Visit the MUSC Center on Aging website and read more about The Circle.

Sally was born in Memphis, Tennessee, graduated from Duke University with a major in English and a focus in art. Along the years she has had such diverse careers as: Chief Librarian of Duke University Chemistry Library, a fashion model, and careers in historic restoration and community service. Her paintings are in corporate and private collections in over 100 cities across the United States and abroad.
