Cassandra Salgado, M.D., MUSC Hospital Epidemiologist, and Linda Formby, RN, CIC, Manager of Infection Control at MUSC, discuss MUSC's successes in controlling hospital-acquired infections such as Clostridium difficile infections (CDIs) and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) through a series of hospital-wide initiatives, such as programs to improve hand hygiene. As a result of these efforts, MUSC has maintained rates of CDIs that are well below national benchmarks and has reduced the rate of CLABSI by 69%.
