Visitation Hours & Information Welcome! Delivery of outstanding patient care and service excellence are our top priorities. In light of this, the MUSC Medical Center promotes and supports a patient- and family-centered care approach, where you and your loved ones are partners in your medical care. Family: Family is defined by the patient and/or the patient’s spokesperson. Family members are encouraged to be involved and supportive of the patient and are integral to the overall well-being of the patient. With the concurrence of the primary nurse and patient/patient spokesperson, family members generally have greater access to the patient than visitors. We believe that families are an important part of your recovery and are welcome to be here at any time you wish. Visitor: Visitors are guests of the patient or family. In some cases, visitors may be relatives. Visitors are welcome from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. |

| Visitation Policy |
- Visiting hours for visitors are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The patient/patient's spokesperson, in conjunction with the primary nurse and health care team, may make additional limitations for visitors especially in the intensive care units.
- Children need to be accompanied by an adult other than the patient. Visits by children less than 12 years of age should always be coordinated with the patient's primary nurse and the patient/patient's spokesperson. ICUs may have different age guidelines.
- Staff may request that the family members leave the room during a medical procedure, treatment, emergency, or to ensure the patient's privacy, rest or to comply with the patient's preference.
- Family and visitors should wash their hands each time they enter and leave the patient room.
- Family and visitors should follow all isolation precautions as instructed by nursing staff.
- Family and visitors with a cold, sore throat or other communicable illness should delay visiting until they are well.
- To maintain the privacy of other patients, family and visitors should only enter the room of the patient that they are here to spend time with.
- To maintain patient privacy and minimize disturbances to other patients and families, congregating outside in the hallways is discouraged.
- To facilitate the rest and recovery of all patients, family and visitors should be mindful and sensitive to the needs of other patients and families by speaking quietly.
- The patient/patient's spokesperson, in conjunction with the primary nurse and health care team, may make visitation limitations.

Two temporary passes may be obtained from the Information Desk, located at the main University Hospital entrance, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. During non-business hours, temporary passes may be obtained from the Security Desk, also located at the main University Hospital entrance. |
| Calling Patient Rooms |
Call the MUSC operator at 843-792-2300. You will need the patient's full name (first and last) in order for us to give you their telephone and/or room number. If you would like to obtain any medical information, then you must also have the patient's numerical code. This code is used to protect the privacy of our patients. |
