Dr. Gross received his B.A. from Alfred University in upstate New York and his M.D. from Duke University. He completed a rotating internship at the Madigan General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, General Surgery training at the Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He also completed Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery training at Carrie Tingley Hospital in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Throughout his postdoctoral training and beyond, Dr. Gross served in the U.S. Army, eventually resigning at the rank of Major while he was the Chief of Orthopaedics at the Moncrief Army Hospital in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Dr. Gross has previously held academic appointments at the University of New Mexico, University of Oklahoma, Harvard University, and the University of Florida. He joined the Department of Orthopaedics at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1986 and is currently a tenured full Professor. Dr. Gross has more than a hundred publications and presentations concerning the pediatric orthopaedic patient and is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. He serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and on the Leadership Development Committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He was recently selected as the 2008 American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Orthopaedics Distinguished Service Award winner. This award is given to annually to the individual in the field of pediatric orthopaedics who has contributed most significantly to the mission of excellence in patient care, research, and teaching.
