MUSC Nutrition Services : Wellness : Wellness Education Resources : Dietary Guidelines : Low Fiber Diet Guidelines

The symptoms of some medical conditions, such as diverticulitis or ulcerative colitis, may be eased by eating a low fiber or low residue diet.  Ask your doctor or dietitian if this diet is right for you.

  • Do not eat raw fruits and vegetables
  • Limit servings of cooked fruits and vegetables to 2 servings per day.
  • Do not eat foods that contain whole grains or bran.
  • Avoid all types of seeds, nuts, raisins, highly seasoned foods, and fried foods.

If you would like more information on this diet, ask your doctor to refer you to an MUSC Outpatient Dietitian. Call MUSC Outpatient Scheduling at 843-876-0888.
