The day before Halloween, most school-aged children are anxiously awaiting the chance to go  trick-or-treating, but for kids living with diabetes, sugary sweets are not recommended. In order to give children with diabetes the chance to enjoy Halloween fare in costume, MUSC sponsors an annual Sugar-free Fall Festival. On October 30th from 6pm-8pm, the MUSC Wellness Center gym was transformed into a spooky cave of streamers, purple and orange lights, and colorful balloons for the fall festival. Student volunteers manned each game station and distributed prizes. A DJ played upbeat music as the children enjoyed a game of softball, jump castle, and sugar-free food carefully labeled with carbohydrate content by a registered dietitian. Parents assisted their children as they visited each festivity.
