MUSC Nutrition Services : Dietary Guidelines : Cancer Diet Guidelines

During cancer treatment, it is especially important to eat well. Keeping your body well nourished will help you stay stronger, reduce your risk of infection, prevent unintentional weight loss, and better cope with treatment.

  • Ask your dietitian to make sure you are meeting your nutritional needs.
  • Small meals and snacks throughout the day are often better tolerated than large meals.
  • You may need to avoid foods that are spicy and foods that have strong odors or flavors.
  • Soft foods or liquid supplements, such as Boost or Ensure, may be easier to eat during treatment.
  • Eat a variety of foods as much as possible.
  • If you know a food makes you nauseous, avoid it and eat more of the foods you know you tolerate without difficulty.

If you would like more information on this diet, ask your doctor to refer you to an MUSC Outpatient Dietitian. Call MUSC Outpatient Scheduling at 843-876-0888.
