The Nose & Sinus Center of MUSC is actively involved in research that will improve the diagnosis and treatment for all patients with disorders of the sinuses. Under NO circumstances will this research impair the care of any patient and under NO circumstances will any patient be placed into a research protocol without prior written informed consent and answering of any and all questions. Participation in these projects is completely voluntary, will not negatively impact your care, and may lead to potential benefits for patients with sinus disorders. Our current areas of research include:

  • Investigation of various patterns of inflammation in chronic sinusitis and response to medical therapy.
     
  • Efficacy of absorbable nasal packing after sinus surgery to improve patient comfort and outcomes. 
     
  • Investigation of gastroesophageal reflux, inflammatory patterns, and quality of life in cystic fibrosis patients with chronic sinusitis.
     
  • Development of new instrumentation, software and applications for computerized image-guided surgery.
     
  • Treatment and repair of patients with cerebrospinal fluid leaks.
     
  • Non-surgical treatments of benign sinus tumors.
