Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU)

The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) is a ten bed specialized unit where patients with neurological disorders receive state-of-the-art treatment. The NSICU cares for patients with injuries to the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. The NSICU is the only academic unit in the state and the only unit staffed by fellowship-trained neurointensivists. Our medical and nursing staff is trained to provide the highest levels of intensive care that patients require.

We are a referral unit for many hospitals in the state as we provide complex neurological care not available elsewhere. Together with the neurosurgeon, neurologist, and other consultants the NSICU attending physician and team members work with patient's and their familie while in the NSICU.

Daily Schedule:

Visiting hours for family: 8 a.m.- 7 p.m.; 8 p.m.- 7 a.m.

Visiting hours for visitors: 9 a.m.- 7 p.m.; 8 p.m.- 9 p.m.

No visiting: 7 a.m.- 8 a.m.; 7 p.m.- 8 p.m.

Quiet time: 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Bedside rounds: Physician rounding usually occurs between 7 a.m.- 11 a.m. Physicians are available to speak with you after these times.

• Glioblastoma
• Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)
• Intracranial Hemorrhage (ICH)
• Ischemic Stroke
• Meningioma
• Myasthenia Gravis
• Pituitary Tumor
• Spinal Cord Injury
• Status Epilepticus
• Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)
• Subdural hematoma (SDH)
• Traumatic brain injury (TBI)

NSICU Staff:

NSICU Staff The NSICU staff is composed of nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, registered dietitians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and attending physicians. Medical students, residents, and fellows (physicians performing advanced training) are also an integral part of the team and function under the supervision of the attending physicians. All members of the team work together to provide the best care possible for our patients.
