Guest:  Diane Andrews – Department of Otolaryngology, MUSC

Host:  MUSC

MUSC:  Speech and language pathology services can greatly benefit children in need.  Diane Andrews, Clinical Manager of Speech Pathology at MUSC, identifies a wide range of children utilizing speech and language pathology assistance.

Diane Andrews:  Some have a specific diagnosis, like Down’s syndrome or global delay.  We also see children who just seem to not talk as much as their peers, or as clearly.  The earlier we can evaluate a child, and start speech language services, the better chance the child has for a positive outcome from therapy.

MUSC:  There are many great strategies parents can employ to help their children develop and improve speech and language skills.

Diane Andrews:  Certainly, talking to your children in simple language and encouraging them to imitate new words is a first step towards improving speech language skills.
