Sickle Cell and the Influence of Chronic Therapies on Bone Mineral Density

In adults, Sickle Cell Anemia patients have been shown to have higher rates of osteoporosis (weak bones). This increases their risk for bone fractures. It is not known if there exists a treatment that would benefit the bones of sickle cell anemia patients. This study is cross sectional, observational study of both adult and pediatric patients to look at their bone health by a DEXA scan and blood work. Eligible patients must be 10 years old and have sickle cell anemia.
