Dr. Patrick Flume, Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at MUSC, discusses the transition into adulthood for children with cystic fibrosis (CF), pointing to some of the challenges experienced by the patient as well as by the parents or caretakers. He also explains the difference in terms of medical needs between children and adults with CF, identifying severity of illness as the main distinction. Dr. Flume concludes by touching upon the issue of men and women with CF parenting children themselves.
