Dr. Patrick Flume, Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at MUSC, lays out an overview of cystic fibrosis (CF), explaining that because CF has a genetic basis, it is often diagnosed during infancy. He touches on both the clinical needs of the infant as well as the educational needs of the family. Dr. Flume describes symptomology of the illness and treatment strategies. Additionally, he talks about the prognosis for a child with CF, noting major improvements over recent decades.
