Childhood Orthopaedic Problems: Scoliosis

Pediatric orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Hooker discusses scoliosis, which involves a lateral bend in the bones of the spine measured on the basis of an x-ray. She indicates physical symptoms leading patients to see an orthopaedist and explains treatment options, which vary depending on the magnitude of spinal bend. Dr. Hooker identifies the range of treatment options, elaborating on back braces as well as surgery. She concludes by addressing the potential long term effects of scoliosis-correcting surgery.
