Dennis Christenson, an elder law attorney, explains the do not resuscitate order, an advance directive offered to EMS services that specifies not to resuscitate or keep a person alive by heroic methods during transportation to the hospital. Mr. Christenson explains to Sally Smith that this document may only be issued by a physician in the case of terminal illness and notes some of the various scenarios in which such an order is useful.
