Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction: An Overview

Sphincter of Oddi (SOD) dysfunction refers to structural or functional disorders involving the biliary sphincter that may result in impedance of bile and pancreatic juice flow causing abdominal pain. Gastroenterologist, Dr. Joseph Romagnuolo, explains the sphincter of Oddi dysfunction and the pain associated with it. Dr. Romagnuolo also explains the specialized test, Endoscopic Retrograde CholangioPancreatography (ERCP), which is the most common and safest way to treat the dysfunction.
