Should replacement surgery is not as commonly performed as hip or knee replacement surgeries but it has proven to be an effective treatment for severe fractures and certain painful conditions of the shoulder. Through advancements in arthroscopic surgery, we are now able to repair more shoulders with less pain and swelling as well as few complications.
Conditions that can be treated include:
- Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease)
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Post-traumatic arthritis
- Rotator cuff tear arthropathy (a combination of severe arthritis and a massive non-reparable rotator cuff tendon tear)
- Avascular necrosis (osteonecrosis)
- Failed previous shoulder replacement surgery
