Geriatrics is combined with General Internal Medicine to focus on the comprehensive assessment of the elderly. When elderly individuals become ill, they often have general symptoms that hinder their ability to function independently. In many cases, an undiagnosed or uncontrolled disease causes an elderly individual to lose some portion of their functional independence.
At MUSC, we practice general internal medicine and geriatrics, specializing in primary care and diagnosis, management and long-term follow-up of complex internal medicine problems. Treatment is coordinated across specialties and subspecialties, with over twenty internists providing primary care, offering consultation and hospital patient care. Related Practices & Services
