Kohl’s grants $151, 394 for health and wellness of South Carolina children since 2004 Kohl's Department Store, through the Kohl's Cares for Kids® program, has donated $42, 810 to MUSC Children's Hospital. The donations were collected from Kohl’s stores located in Summerville and Mt. Pleasant. Kohl’s has gifted approximately $151,000 to the MUSC Children’s Hospital since 2004. This year's grant will support an online podcasting and radio program, Kohl's Take a Minute for Kids. The Take a Minute for Kids radio campaign will offer parents and families in a ten-county region the latest pediatric health, safety and prevention information from the pediatric experts at MUSC Children's Hospital. The campaign will host monthly topics regarding pediatric issues pertinent to the season and/or month on Charleston’s WEZL 103.5FM, WXLY 102.5FM and WSSX, 95.1 FM and Myrtle Beach’s WMYB, 92.1 FM and WYNA, 104.9 FM. To complement the radio campaign, the hospital will create a Kohl’s Take a Minute for Kids Podcast Series and web page. Future topics for the series and radio segments include: car seat safety, burn prevention, motor vehicle injury prevention and safety, wellness and exercise, obesity, asthma, ATV safety, importance of wearing helmets, sports safety, and child-specific health care facilities. These segments will give Children's Hospital and Perinatal Services expert staff a chance to interface with communities, in addition to expanding MUSC Children’s Hospital community outreach efforts to the Myrtle Beach area. “Kohl’s has been a great supporter of Children’s Hospital’s and children’s health across the country. We are very fortunate to have such a great partner here in the Low Country,” said John Sanders, Children’s Hospital administrator. “Along with the donations which allow us to continue programs and develop new ones to benefit our families, Kohl’s A-team (employees’ volunteer group) volunteers on a regular basis to make many of our community outreach events a success.” Since 2004, Kohl’s has donated more than $151,000 to MUSC Children’s Hospital. Kohl's commitment to MUSC Children’s Hospital is made possible through the Kohl's Cares for Kids® philanthropic initiative. Kohl’s Cares for Kids includes a merchandise program featuring $5 books and plush toys where 100% of net profits go toward supporting hospital partnerships like this one. Through 2008, Kohl's has raised more than $126 million dollars through its merchandise program. Other components of Kohl's Cares for Kids include Kohl's A-Team associate volunteer program; the Kohl’s Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program, recognizing stand-out kids for volunteer efforts in their communities; and fundraising gift cards for local schools and nonprofit organizations. |
