The MUSC Heart Failure Program is the state-wide referral center for congestive heart failure and offers comprehensive services for management of this disease, including revolutionary new treatments such as the HeartMate II left ventricular assist device (LVAD) for advanced heart failure patients and candidates for heart transplant. Congestive heart failure patients are seen by a range of specialists in one visit. This multidisciplinary team includes cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pharmacists, therapists, dieticians, social workers and nurse practitioners. The team develops a personalized treatment plan for each congestive heart failure patient and monitors follow-up, helping patients manage medications, diet and exercise.
