The MUSC Heart & Vascular Center deploys some of the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies in existence, including state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories, and South Carolina's only integrated cardiac imaging and interventional radiology center.
A prime example of leading technology is Flash CT, which scans the heart in half of a heartbeat (250–270 milliseconds). The device's lightning speed and other advanced features result in far less radiation exposure than any other CT scanner. Flash CT can be used as an alternative to catheterization in low-risk patients to rule out heart disease as a cause of chest pain.
The center also features an advanced 3-D angiography system and high-speed cardiac MRI. We also have a magnetic navigational catheterization system, which allows for the examination and treatment of blood vessels and arteries that previously could not have been reached.
