Should you call your doctor if you have hives?  What about an earache?  What is the best way to stop your child's nosebleed?  These are questions that can be answered with the Symptom Checker.

Here you will find:

  • Lists of symptoms for common illnesses and injuries
  • Explanations of when the symptoms are severe enough to contact your doctor or to call 911
  • Advice about how you can treat the symptoms at home (when you can safely do so).

The topics are grouped into Adult and Child categories:

Adult Health Topics
Choose from 61 topics in 17 categories ranging from knee pain and sunburn to alcohol abuse problems and sexually transmitted diseases.

Child Health Topics
Choose from 80 pediatric topics in 15 categories.  There are topics specific to newborns, drug dosage tables, and other childhood illness and injury symptoms.
