Judith M. Skoner, M.D., joined the MUSC Department of Otolaryngology-HNS as Assistant Professor in September 2005. Dr. Skoner received her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed residency at The Medical University of South Carolina. Following residency, she completed fellowship training in Microvascular Reconstruction / Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. After fellowship, Dr. Skoner traveled briefly through Nepal, providing care to underserved patients at remote locations with various head & neck diseases, and soon thereafter, joined the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery faculty at Temple University School of Medicine, as Director of Microvascular/Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
Now, as part of the MUSC faculty, Dr. Skoner will continue her practice with particular areas of expertise in microvascular surgery and complex reconstructions of the head and neck, post-traumatic facial reconstruction, and functional/aesthetic reconstructions of other facial/ head & neck defects. In addition, Dr. Skoner’s practice includes surgery of salivary gland tumors and other head and neck tumors, as well as the scope of general ear, nose and throat / head and neck disorders. She sees MUSC patients both at the downtown Rutledge Tower clinic and at the Mt. Pleasant office, and is currently the Chief of Otolaryngology at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital in Charleston.
Dr. Skoner’s research interests include quality of life and post-treatment function studies in the head & neck oncology patient, immunobiology of head & neck tumors and premalignant oral lesions, and public education and awareness of head and neck cancer. Dr. Skoner is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, board eligible for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and is a fellow in the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
