Dr. Patrick Flume joined the faculty of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1993. He is now a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, overseeing a rapidly growing Cystic Fibrosis Center, including the only adult CF program in South Carolina. Though he continues to practice general pulmonary and critical care medicine, his primary interests are in CF and bronchiectasis, and chronic lung infection.
The MUSC Cystic Fibrosis Center is the principal CF program in South Carolina. They provide state-of-the-art care to patients and families with CF; provide primary educator of clinicians and basic scientists in the field of CF; and perform basic and clinical research in the field of CF. Dr. Flume is the MUSC CF Center Director and has national recognition by the national and international CF community having served on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center Committee, the Adult Care Consensus Committee, the Advisory Task Force on Adult Issues, the Professional Education Committee, and is currently co-chair for the Pulmonary Practice Guidelines Committee.
Dr. Flume has an active clinical research program and chairs the Advisory Committee for the MUSC General Clinical Research Center. He also directs the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Laboratory and the MUSC Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
