Robert "Rusty" P. Turner, MD, MSCR, is Medical Director of the MUSC Medical Neurophysiology Laboratory.
He is an Associate Professor in the departments of Neurosciences, Pediatrics, and Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, & Epidemiology. In 2003, while continuing in clinical practice, he completed the Master of Science in Clinical Research program to pursue research interests in neurostimulation and epilepsy, particularly the effects of music on epileptiform discharges and seizures.
Dr. Turner's postgraduate training consisted of internship/residency in Pediatrics followed by two fellowships, one in Adult/Child Neurology, and the second in Clinical Neurophysiology/EMG, and his current clinical/research emphases are pediatric epilepsy/epileptogenesis and intraoperative neurophysical monitoring. He is also involved in neuroepidemiology research involving the neurosomatic sequellae of TBI.
He has received numerous awards and honors in Charleston over the past 10 years, including multiple Faculty Excellence Awards for teaching, AREA Award for excellence in ambulatory care, Golden Apple Award nominee in 2005, and a 2007 nominee for the AAMC Humanism in Medicine Award.
Dr. Turner is Board Certificated by the National Board of Medical Examiners, became a certified member of the American Society of Neurorehabilitation in 1982, and has six medical specialty boards' certifications:
