| Jan Andrew Kylstra, MD, is professor of ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute. He specializes in the surgical and medical management of diseases of the retina including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular holes and epiretinal membranes.
He graduated from Dartmouth College and Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his residence in ophthalmology and his fellowship in retina diseases at Harvard. While at Harvard he was appointed Chief of Resident in Ophthalmology. Dr. Kylstra is board certified in ophthalmology.
After finishing his fellowship training, Dr. Kylstra worked for 11 years at the University of North Carolina where he served as chief of the retina service and director of the ophthalmology clinic and attained the rank of Associate Professor. While at UNC he published numerous scientific articles on such topics as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, retinopathy of prematurity, and retinal infections. Dr. Kylstra left UNC to become a partner in a multispecialty ophthalmology practice in Burlington, NC, in 2000 where he worked for ten years.
