| Dr. Gonsalves completed a BS in dental hygiene from the University of Louisville, and her degree in Medicine from the University of Kentucky (UK) in 1975 and 1984 respectively. Dr. Gonsalves served as Program Director of the Family Medicine Program at UK prior to joining MUSC. She is one of the co-authors for the award winning national Smiles for Life Oral Health Curriculum. Her interests include preventive care, women’s health, oral health in primary care, and service learning pedagogy. Currently she is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Resident Inclusion and Diversity Education at the Medical University of South Carolina . Dr. Gonsalves is an advocate for health care of the underserved where she is faculty advisor and medical director of the student run free medical clinic called C.A.R.E.S.
